Within the West Midlands, Michael works with young people in workshops, teaching comics and art skills and introducing participants to print publishing techniques. His passion is to introduce the freedom of expression in comics making and print publishing that young people can use in their creative lives.
His workshops are an exploration of drawing, writing, storytelling, design, collage, montage and painting in order to tell a story. Sessions have introduced participants to develop skills in comics making, art making, character design, responding to mock-briefs, journaling through comics and contributing to group anthologies and zines.
So far he has worked with Warwick Arts Centre, Ikon Gallery and the Barber Institute of Fine Art making art with families, primary school children, secondary school children and university students. Students have seen their work published for the first time in zines Michael has designed for their project.
He has also mentored graduates in their comics projects.
Michael is currently developing independent comics workshops to be hosted outside of art institutions. Keep tabs on his instagram for future announcements.
